They are a nightmare to balance when this is done because they require heavy metal added. Also you need a longer rod, so whats normaly done is they cut the crank for the chevy 2.1" journal or the older 327 2.0" journal.Doing a 408 conversion and need to know if I need a new crank. The "M" has a shorter stroke. I was told a while back that to use 400 pistons you have to use 400 rods because of the lengths between the 351M and 400 were different. But the same crank could be used as long as you change the pistons and rods. The rods are the same.
